This review contains no spoilers.

The story follows Paedyn, a strong and resilient protagonist who captivated me from the start. The slow-burn romance and witty banter between characters kept me engaged throughout. However, if you’re expecting a classic enemies-to-lovers trope, you may be disappointed, as the tropes here are mild. It leans more towards an "I hate you, but you’re still my friend" dynamic. Also, if you’re looking for a spicy romance, you won’t find it in this book.

Overall, despite my initial low expectations, I thoroughly enjoyed this popular novel. Paedyn’s character and the slow-burn romance were highlights for me. It's helpful to understand the book’s premise before diving in, as it may shape your expectations.

With her life hanging by a thread, Paedyn must navigate the dangerous world of the Purging Trials, where her lack of powers is not only a disadvantage but also a potential death sentence. As she fights to survive, she finds herself drawn to one of the Ilyas princes, adding further complication to her already perilous situation.

Paedyn’s journey is a constant battle between her desire to stay hidden as an Ordinary and her growing feelings for the prince. She must continually weigh her survival against the risk of exposing her true identity. With each passing trial, the stakes rise, and Paedyn must rely on her wit, cunning, and resourcefulness to outsmart her opponents and protect her secret.

But as the competition intensifies, so does the threat of discovery. Paedyn’s every move is scrutinized, and she must stay one step ahead of those who would expose her. The tension between her and the prince becomes a dangerous game of cat and mouse, where trust is a luxury she cannot afford.

As the Purging Trials reach their climax, Paedyn must make a choice—continue hiding her true self or embrace her identity as an Ordinary and fight for a better future. Will she navigate the treacherous world of the Trials and save herself and others like her? Or will she succumb to the pressures and betrayals that surround her?

The Trials of Ordinary is a thrilling tale of resilience, love, and the power of ordinary people to defy expectations and challenge the status quo. Paedyn’s journey will captivate readers and leave them eager for more as she fights for her life and a chance to change her world.
